『魔女の宅急便』の「海の見える街」はテンポ（４拍子）がゆっくりした、少女らしく、夢があり、テンポとしては真面目な感じの曲です。
ところで、私の中で「海の見える街」と言えば、横浜、シンガポール、ニューヨーク、ベニス…、みんなかっこよくてやや若干危険な（いわゆるちょいワル）、要はモテ要素満点のビターなイメージです。なので、そんな雰囲気が「海の見える街」にも欲しくなり…そういう感じのを作ってみました。
アップテンポはすでに有名な８ビートのジャズバージョンがあったのですが、私が気に入ったのはシンガポールのディニー・デュラーニさんのミュゼット風（４分の６拍子）です。インスタで連絡したところ、すぐにコラボに応じていたただけました。ありがとうございました。

具体的な歌詞のストーリーは1945年に台湾から日本に帰ってきた湾生の人たちのイメージなのですが、このように住み慣れた土地を去らなければならない辛さは現在も至るところで起きています。たとえば、中国返還後の香港ではすでに数十万人が国外に脱出しています。
ただ…暗すぎるイメージにも敢えてしてません。だって、この先、いいこともありますからね！
